The Events

The Travelling Table is back in 2019 at Pirate Life Brewery and the Unley Town Hall for three delicious family recipe feasts and three cooking workshops. This year we’re thrilled to be working with the Filipino, Vietnamese and Sri Lankan community to honour and celebrate the Asian wave of migration to South Australia by featuring their food, culture and migration stories.

Grandmas, migrant community groups and their families representing the three communities will work with our head chef Alana Brabin to curate, cook and share some of their regional flavours, stories and culture with a four-course ‘feed me’ feast for our guests.

At the Travelling Table dinners our honoured guest cooks from the Filipino, Vietnamese and Sri Lankan communities will also introduce the audience to the food, culture and the migrant stories represented in the plates before our diners in a short interview with our ABC presenter hosts Sonya Feldhoff and Deb Tribe.

Each night will also exhibit artefacts and migrant stories curated by the Migration Museum of SA thanks to the Australia Day Council of South Australia and the Australian Refugee Association. The Travelling Table is also proudly providing training and paid employment for new refugees, who will serve you during our delicious four course dinner.

At the dinners, a selection of wines will be available thanks to Fox Creek Wines and beer lovers can enjoy South Australia’s finest craft beers from Pirate Life Brewing.

*If you are booking as a group, please ensure all tickets are purchased in one transaction to ensure you are all seated together. We'll be in touch closer to the event to confirm seating arrangements.

About the Workshops

At the Travelling Table cooking workshops, attendees get the opportunity to learn how to cook and have a generous taste of a delicious Filipino , Vietnamese and Sri Lankan family recipe. These are dishes filled with love that have been cooked for hundreds of family members that tell part of the migration story of our featured migrant communities.

The Travelling Table cooking workshops are not about food trends or celebrity chefs. This is real food made with love! These recipes have travelled thousands of kilometres and been passed down from mother to daughter for generations to be here so we are thrilled and humbled to have our Filipino, Vietnamese and Sri Lankan communities share them with us at Pirate Life Brewery on Thursday 6 June and Unley Town Hall on Saturday 7 June and Sunday 8 June.
