The Events

The Travelling Table is thrilled to partner with our major sponsor The City of Unley who share our values in good food, family and community to present the inaugural Travelling Table event; a Nonna, Yaya and Baba pop up restaurant and cooking workshop series at the Unley Town Hall.

This first event will focus on three post-war migrant communities - Greek, Ukrainian and Italian (Molfetta) - and will feature delicious traditional dishes in three dinners and three cooking workshops representing each country’s unique regional flavours.

The four-course menu will be created, cooked and shared by our Yayas, Babas and Nonnas representing each featured country, whose recipes were brought over by the first generation of home cooks and form a snapshot of their migrant kitchens between the 1940s – 1960s. Like the cultural traditions of their homelands many of these recipes have never even been written down; they have been passed on by ‘doing’, and more than 60 years after they first arrived in Australia they will be shared with The Travelling Table guests.

Alongside the food that expresses their migrant history, our grandmas and their families will also share their migrant stories, cultural entertainment and more with the help of ABC Radio Adelaide and the Migration Museum.

On the night, a selection of wines will be available thanks to The Online Wine Shop and beer lovers can enjoy South Australia’s finest craft beers from Pirate Life Brewing.

*If you are booking as a group, please ensure all tickets are purchased in one transaction to ensure you are all seated together. We'll be in touch closer to the event to confirm seating arrangements.

About the Workshops

These recipes were brought over to Australia by the first generation of home cooks and they form a snapshot of their migrant kitchen between the 1940s – 1960s. Like the cultural traditions of their homelands, most of these recipes have never been written down.
