Food. Life. Culture.
The Travelling Table is a temporary migrant restaurant and cooking workshop project that honours the long journeys that started in kitchens right around the globe.
With the help of treasured grandmas and grandpas, community groups and their families, we celebrate South Australia’s rich migrant stories in days and nights of food, language, culture and entertainment in iconic SA venues and festivals.
The Travelling Table dinners and cooking workshops explore, present and share cultural wisdom and regional homeland recipes from migrant communities who made a new life for their families in South Australia.
Like every traditional recipe, each family story is both unique and similar, with hardships and success. But one thing is common - the food from our migrant mothers and grandmothers kitchen and their family table is the cultural glue that that ties each generation to its cultural history. The travelling table will provide a small taste of the multicultural riches that can be found in Nonna, Yaya, Baba, Oma, Nai Nai, Ba and Jaddati’s kitchen and inspire new cultural interest in our precious migrant history and the wonderful food that came with them to Australia.
